Edge of the Lake Vineyard & Winery
On a beautiful January afternoon, headed to Edge of the Lake Vineyard and Winery in Valley View TX, just north of Denton.
Let me preface with - this winery and its views are beautiful, and the staff is top-notch and so friendly. The wines are all spectacular and the dog welcome committee made the experience extra inviting.
Driving into the stone entry, the road parallels the vineyard to a house converted into a Tasting Room. As soon as we exited the vehicle, we were warmly welcomed by Tannin, an exuberant blue heeler who gave lots of snuggles and kisses and Bam Bam, who did the same after Tannin had gotten all the lovins.
We made our way into the Tasting Room where we were warmly greeted. Chris McIntosh, the winemaker, came out for a quick hello and introductions to the Tasting Room crew.
After a short chat, we got down to business - wine tasting! We sampled a nice array of their amazing wines, showcasing the scope of what the talented Chris crafts.
The wines were incredible, and it was hard to choose which to grab a glass of. I opted for a glass of Barbera, and Marmar got a glass of Edge Blend.
The evening was unseasonably warm for January - seated outside watching the most amazing sunset. Mother nature was showing off with an absolutely spectacular sunset, casting a pink and purple hue over a beautiful lake view in one direction, and vibrant oranges in the other, giving a spectacular 360 degree view of colors.
For those who want to wine nerd out with us, here are some of the highlights:
2024 Texas Hog Wash Rose’ - a 100% Grenache off-dry petal-pink rose’. Nose of peach, honeysuckle, pear, and melon - taste of peach, pear, and more melon. Reminiscent of a Gewurztraminer without the grapefruit.
2024 Albarino - also an off dry with a vibrant honey-yellow color. Nose of honeydew melon and pineapple and taste of pineapple and a citrus explosion.
2023 Barbera - Wonderfully fruity, with cherry and vanilla on the nose. Bright berry flavors of cherry and red currant with lingering soft tannins.
2022 Premium Edge Blend - a showcase of North Texas, bold and full bodied, a perfect winter sipper (even if winter is not as wintery as it should be). Lots of aromas of cherry, blackberry , and a hint of violet. On the palate, the red berries continue alongside vanilla and vibrant spices with a lingering finish.
Every wine on the list is a medal winner in various international wine competitions.
As a special treat, Chris brought us a side by side of the 2020 and 2021 Grenache. It was such a treat to try these and experience what a difference a year can make.
It was a fantastic evening at Edge of the Lake Winery and we cannot wait to come visit again!
