Talks Wine

Making wine fun and approachable to everyone.

No Snobs Allowed!

But, Why?

Yeah, wine culture is strange

Wine culture can be overwhelming and daunting… I don’t like how wine is perceived by non wine drinkers. Ever watch a video of an attractive person, swirling an expensive wine in an expensive glass, using exotic sounding phrases to describe wine you’ve never heard of from a place you’ve never been to?

Yeah, wine culture is strange, and sometimes it feels like you are just supposed to jump on board, not ask questions and “be a wine person” or throw your hands up and say “wine is not for me..”

I despise that wine culture has evolved to be something that is for a select few that “get it” and if you don’t, the default is to not drink wine. If I can’t enjoy it “properly” then it’s not for me. Yes, there are a lot of influencers, publications, and classes you can take that say they make wine approachable. But how many of them make it fun? My experience with these approachable wine educators is that they still want you to eventually move over into the full pomp and circumstance of wine… and they are still stodgy and gloss over super basic stuff that wine experts take for granted.

Break that Loop

In my own way, I want to break that loop. I know and appreciate the why behind what wine snobs do, but I’m also here to say phooy to that! There will be days where I’m supper geeky about wine and other days where I’m drinking wine from a red solo cup with an ice cube in it.

On top of that, I’m not going to give you a tour of my million dollar wine cellar.

Why?

Because I don’t have one!

Years in the wine industry has not allowed me to afford the lavish “wine lifestyle” the internet has led you to believe we all live. I’m a wine lover on a budget, and pretending to be anything else is disingenuous.

Wrong Shaped Clay Cup?

Wine has been around for thousands of years! Am I supposed to believe that in ancient Mesopotamia they were truly worried about if the wine was the proper temperature? Were they making fun of their neighbors for serving wine in the wrong shaped clay cup?

There is true nuance and delicacy in wine deserving of all the examination we give it, but there is also a thread to our ancestors just having a good time, celebrating this weird drink that had to have come from the gods!

It’s family and friends, it’s talking, singing, and dancing, it’s being sad and needing something to cry into, it’s celebrating, and it’s Tuesday with pizza after work.

Join me, as we cheers to alllllllll things wine, no matter how stupid or pretentious.
